Synopsis: | These notes document some of the concerns of the "Black Women and Representation Workshops", organised by a group of women in 1984. The workshops were held in London. Some of their main concerns were the need to work towards the breakdown of 'mainstream' conventions and the need of a theory that takes into account the economic history of black women's (mis)representation and ensuing stereotyping as well as the interaction between social realities and cinematic fictions. | |
