Synopsis: | The contribution is concerned with the question of representation and 'objectivity'. The films "Riots and Rumours of Riots" and "News and Comment" critically evaluate received norms of objectivity by drawing attention to the assumptions and constructions behind reportage and documentary. These and other films also address the language of power or dominance which serves an established order, whether it is the language of patriarchy such as in "Serious Undertakings" or the language of colonialismas raised in "Signs of Empire" and "Unsere Afrikareise". See TABB folders: "Undercut: 'Cultural Identities'." | |
