Help

Dear user of KeiBi online,

The following tips should make the use of KeiBi online easier for you and show you the possibilities of this database.
Please remember that the present KeiBi online is a beta-version, whose content is still being enhanced and improved upon. At the end of 2012, all volumes of the Keilschriftbibliographie, excepting the most recent two issues, will be available online. We are very grateful for comments and suggested improvements, which you may send to any of e-mail addresses listed in the contact section.
Your KeiBi online developer team.

The Menu

The following menus are all visible and functional in each view of KeiBi online.
The horizontal menu lets you access the cover page of the database, general information about the database as well as the contact section for feedback, suggestions, and comments.
The vertical menu on the left contains a simple search as well as the navigation points between the different sub-pages of the database.
Above the simple search you will find information about your user status. It is currently by default “guest”. At present personalized access is provided only for the developers of KeiBi online.

Simple Search

You may enter words or phrases in the simple search box, all database categories will be searched, i.e. title keyword + title keyword or title keyword + author’s surname, etc. Search terms may be connected with Boolean operators (AND / OR / OR NOT / AND NOT).

Advanced Search

The advanced search gives you the possibility for more sophisticated queries and helps you avoid bloated lists of results.
In the uppermost input field you may specify your search using Boolean operators “AND”, “OR”, “OR NOT”, and “AND NOT” linking each search term with the subsequent one. Furthermore, you may link phrases by using quotation marks or if you do not know the exact spelling of a search term you may use the wildcard operator * (more than one character unknown) or ? (exactly one character unknown, may also be used within a word).
Furthermore, the following search criteria are provided:
Person – Search for the name of an author or the editor of an article or a book. Possible entries are in the format: “Surname, Name”, sometimes also “Surname, N.
Title keyword – Search for the title of a book or an article.
Series/Periodical – Search for a publication series or periodical. At present, it works with abbreviations commonly used in the Keilschriftbibliographie.
Year – Search directly for the publication year.
If looking for a specific entry in a Keilschriftbibliographie, use “Go To”. The search term must be formatted as Volume-Nr.: Entry Number (e.g. 67:930).
In case you do not want a specialized search, you may enter the search word in the topmost search box. It functions in the same way as a simple search.

Bibliographies

This menu directs you to the published volumes of the Keilschriftbibliographie, which have been integrated into the database, beginning with the most recent. You may choose between viewing of each single volume as a list or as a citable copy of the original item in Orientalia reproduced in facsimile [link: » PDF].
By clicking on „display all“, you can view the introductory texts to a particular Keilschriftbibliographie volume.
The link „n entries“, where „n“ is the number (quantity) of KeiBi entries, directs you to a complete list of all entries in this specific volume.
In the list of results, you may check all or just some entries. You can then save, print, or export the selected titles. The export format is BibTeX, which most commonly used citation or reference management programmes are able to import.

Saved Entries

The „Saved Entries“ area functions as a folder for your queries, here you can find all saved bibliographic entries, which you can then export separately or in entirety to your citation or reference management programme.
„Clear Saved Entries“ at the lowermost end of the list, deletes all saved entries.
